A very common question is,how do you get rid of toenail fungus or, more to the point how do you treat toenail fungus naturally?
Below are a couple of methods that some people say have worked for them. These are a variety of natural remedies for toenail fungus, however do not expect fast results. Just be patient and persistent.
- Tea Tree and Oil Rub
This 1st treatment of fungal nail infections must be done at the earliest sign of any nail bed infections.
Tea tree oil is a natural disinfectant, which has both fungicidal and anti-bacterial properties that makes it a popular in nail fungus treatment. Orange oil has similar properties to Tea Tree oil and has shown promising results for foot fungus and fingernail fungus, and can be added to the mixture. Always remember to dilute any essential oil before applying in any attempt to banish toenail fungus.
You will need:-
- 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil
- 1/2 teaspoon of orange oil (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon of grapeseed or olive oil
- Cotton wool
As soon as you notice the tell-tale signs of nail fungus, mix together 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil, ½ teaspoon of orange oil, and ½ teaspoon of grapeseed or olive oil.
Soak a cotton wool in the mixture and apply to affected nail pressing it on gently but firmly so the liquid comes out. Then allow to dry, naturally.
As an alternative, you can place the tea tree oil and the orange oil in enough water to soak your feet in, and do that for 15-20 minutes. Both treatments should be done faithfully morning and evening.
Another common question asked when wanting to know, how do you get rid of toenail fungus is, What is the Vinegar Dip for Toenail Fungus?
- The Vinegar Dip and Baking Soda Soak
Using vinegar as an acid to kill nail fungus may seem a little worrying, but vinegar is a fairly weak acid, and will help kill off the fungus without altering the Ph. of the treated area in any harmful way.
Baking soda is not fungicidal, that is, it does not kill the fungus. It is, however, fungi static, which means it can prevent fungus from growing and spreading. The reason it acts like this is because it is alkaline (the opposite of acidic) and fungus is able to flourish when its environment is more acidic.
Thus the element of both applications together as natural remedies for toenail fungus would seem to be a sensible idea.
You will need:
-1 cup of white vinegar or apple cider vinegar
-4-5 tablespoons of baking soda
-Something to soak your feet in
-Towels, preferably paper.
The first part of this fungal cure is to mix 1 cup of your chosen vinegar (white or apple) with enough water to soak your feet in. Soak for 15 minutes, and then pat dry with paper towels (paper towels tend to soak up damp residue better than cotton towels).
Follow this by adding several tablespoons of baking soda to enough water to soak your feet in, and soak for 15 minutes.
Pat feet completely dry with paper towels.
Do this twice a day. Hopefully the vinegar will kill off the fungus, while the baking soda will then inhibit further fungal growth.
Our 3rd Natural Treatment of Toenail Fungus is
- Just Coconut Oil
Without getting too scientific here, medium chain fatty acids work as natural fungicides. The fungal membrane is crucial to maintaining the “life” of the fungus, which is why many antifungal treatments target the fungal membrane. Fatty acids, such as the ones found abundantly in coconut oil, naturally insert themselves in the lipid (fat) layer of the fungal membrane and disturb it, leading eventually to cell disintegration and the ultimate destruction of the fungus.
You will need :-
-Gloves or a sink and soap to wash hands between applications
Wearing gloves or washing your hands between applications (if you have more than one affected nail) rub coconut oil onto the area and let it absorb and dry naturally. A small thin layer will do. Repeat this at least 2-3 times daily.
A final note on how to get rid of toenail fungus
Like athletes foot, you can work towards preventing nail fungus by keeping your feet clean and, most importantly, dry.
Don’t re-wear socks, and stick to open toed shoes if possible.
It takes time and patience to get rid of toenail fungus, and for the nail to grow back healthy and normal again.
Be diligent about applying your treatments and don’t overlook preventative methods to keep the fungus from coming back.
Last Tips for best results:
Before using these treatments, trim back as much of the affected nail as you can with clean nail clippers.
Make sure to disinfect the clippers after using them to prevent the fungus from spreading to other nails,
Rinse feet in warm water, and pat dry preferably with paper towels.
We wish you the best in your attempts.
What we do
Onychomycosis treatment (or toenail fungus treatment) has many different forms. It is difficult to know the best treatment for toenail fungus as the cure for nail fungus may be down to the individual and how they apply the products given.
You can obviously buy nail fungus treatment over the counter at many pharmacies, online, or through your local G.P. Many of whom are themselves confused about the best fungal nail treatment to prescribe.
We have based our own research after Mick had yellow toenails from a long term fungal nail infection and went on the hunt for the best toenail fungus treatment he could find. For Mick laser toenail fungus treatment was too expensive, often favouring natural methods Mick tried such things as tea tree oil for toenail fungus but was unsure as to any real benefit.
Without doubt the best toenail fungus cure was two products that he found online – these are now both of the fungal nail infection treatment products that we promote on this site.
We like to base our information on facts about nail fungus medication, the causes of toenail fungus, and provide you with some knowledge about your best option for fungal nail treatment whether that be ‘old wives tales’ about curing yellow toenails with apple cider vinegar, some kind of natural treatment for toenail fungus, topical solutions or laser fungal nail treatment for removal of your toenails.
We wish you well.
